Hair Extension FAQs

Your hair extensions from Leah Baker will be secure, easy to maintain, and add just the right amount of length and volume for any occasion. We offer an extensive range of colors to ensure your extensions match your existing hair color perfectly.

Read our hair extension FAQ below to find answers to common questions regarding hair extensions.

What can I expect during the consultation?
We will discuss your desired style and assess the condition of your natural hair to determine which line of extensions would be the best fit. We will discuss how much time and effort you are willing to put into your extensions. Some require daily maintenance, while others require minimal maintenance. We will show you the different attachment methods and lines of hair extensions available. Once we agree on the type of extensions that are best for you, then you will be given the quote. If you decide to move forward, then we will match your natural hair to the extension color and you will be putting down your deposit at that time as well. The deposit goes towards the cost of the hair and all deposits are non-refundable. When the hair is ordered from the manufacturer, they will not issue a refund under any circumstance. Therefore, you will be required to sign and date the Deposit Agreement. We can then schedule the appointment, and it takes about 1-2 weeks to receive the hair from the manufacturer.

How often do my extensions need to be maintained?
It depends on the type of extensions you have, NBR is usually every six to eight weeks.

Can I style my extensions?
You can style your hair the same as you always do with our extensions; in an updo, down, straight, curly, and you can also use your round brush. Please be sure to use an extension brush when the extensions are dry and a wet brush when extensions are wet.

Can I wash my extensions?
Yes, you can wash and condition your extensions, but make sure to use a wet brush to detangle the extensions when wet.

Can I swim with extensions in?
Swimming is not recommended with extensions in, especially when swimming in the ocean.

Hair Extension Maintenance

Hair extensions from Leah Baker are super easy to maintain. Simply follow the advice below to ensure your hair extensions look their best and last a long time.

Washing Your Extensions
Do not shampoo for two days. Always wash your hair with your head back and not tilted forward. Never dry with a scrubbing action, instead wrap a towel to absorb water. Always dry bonds to prevent bond breakdown.

Brush your extensions with a wet brush before getting in the shower to prevent tangles and matting. Using a sulfate-free moisturizing shampoo and conditioner will prolong both your hair color and hair extension color. Be sure to shampoo gently between the rows and avoid vigorous scrubbing.

Use a leave-in conditioner after towel-drying your hair, before drying your extensions. Use a styling oil after you blow dry your extensions. Always start from your ends and work your way up to your scalp when brushing wet hair. Hold your hair in one hand like a ponytail and brush down.

Healthy Hair
Brush three times a day, with recommended brush. Brush row by row, scalp to ends, starting form the nape up. Always pull into a scrunchy while sleeping or any activity that has your hair blowing in the wind. If you have curly hair, brush once in the morning and once at night. Use a wet brush to gently remove tangles from mid-shafts to ends. Do not use a comb at the scalp area or bond.
(This will help prevent tangling or matting)

Styling Your Extensions
Use your hands and fingers to rough-dry your hair 80% of the way. Do not tug at your extensions with a round brush or comb.

No ponytails put up and left wet.

When using curling irons, flat irons and hot rollers, keep them at a safe distance from the Great Lengths bond, approximately one and half inches from the bond. Do not use a blow dryer on the bond area and medium heat only.

If you are curling your extensions, run the hair extensions through the curling iron once or twice to smooth the hair before placing any curls. Doing this allows for a more polished look that is close to the cuticle and prolongs your extension hair. Be sure to use heat protectant and detangler from a high-quality brand.

Sleeping With Your Extensions In
Before going to bed, brush your extension hair out and place in a loose ponytail or braid.
